This can happen for a multitude of reasons, but know that no platform is exempt from this issue. Uninstalling mods mid-playthrough and continuing with the same save is the most common reason why this happens. Everything runs fine through character creation, up to the point when you enter Helgen keep and get your gear. Almost immediately after opening my inventory, the game crashes. No error message or anything.

It's not there because it was part of a mod you deleted. But it's still in your inventory. No amount of reinstalling is going to fix this so long as you keep using your old save files. It might be a books inventory model is corrupted (and somehow stuck in the inventory), or a mod got removed while you had a book it added leaving some data behind. If you start a new game and it works fine it's one of the above.
