Ignore any laminar flow airfoils, you won't get more than about 1 mm of laminar flow (if any) at your glider speeds in typical conditions. Source: aero engineer working as a fluid dynamicist. WebFeb 22, 2024 · Glider airfoils are optimised for minimum Reynolds numbers of around 1 million; when used in a GA aircraft this might be a bit conservative but could fit well to your low speed requirements. The ultimate step could be to design your own airfoil. Take my glider recommendation and use XFOIL to tweak it to what you really need. http://arthobby.com/index.php?page=item&category=29&sub_category=31&item=256
WebI would only recommend this project to an more advanced builder. This particular wing is intended for an Discus Launch Glider that meets F3k rules and requirements. The process for building the stabilizers is almost exactly the same as building a wing, except its smaller and uses a symmetrical airfoil shape. WebAug 6, 2024 · Laminar airfoil pros: Low drag at an intermediate AoA range. That is the reason why all modern gliders and most modern GA designs use laminar airfoils. Laminar airfoil cons: They work as intended only at Reynolds numbers between 1 Million and 5 Million - above that the transition happens very early, regardless of pressure distribution. …
